인턴이 하고 싶어 고민했을 때; 커버레터 공유

최근에 저희 팀에 새로운 인턴분이 6명이나 입사를 하셨어요! 이미 이번 달에 계약이 끝나는 인턴분들이 5명이나 있어 당분간 총 11명의 인턴들을 동료 분과 함께 관리하게 되었습니다. 이번 인턴 채용 프로세스에 함께하면서 제가 대학생 때 인턴 경험을 위해 열심히 준비했던 시절이 새록새록 생각이 났어요.

 

저는 고등학교 때는 비교적 쉽게 상위권 성적을 유지했지만, 미국 대학에 입학하면서 진심으로 공부를 사랑하는 사람들과 누가 봐도 인정하는 천재성이 있는 사람들을 만나면서, 전 너무나도 작은 세상에 살았구나를 깨달았는데요. 항상 잘하는 아이 었던 제가 처음 보는 점수를 받고, 원하는 학회에서 거절당하니 아주 잠시 세상이 무너졌던 것 같아요. 물론, 다양한 시도를 통해 효율적으로 공부하는 방법을 학습하고, 학회 및 다양한 학교 동아리에 참여할 수 있는 기회를 획득하면서 조금씩 자신감을 회복했지만요. 그 과정에서 저는 항상 1등일 수 없다는 점과, 사람마다 각자 다 잘하는 게 있고, 또 조금 부족한 게 있다는 것을 배웠던 것 같아요. 저에게 무리한 기대를 갖고 있지 않으니, 오히려 조금 더 여유로워진 것 같아요.

이런저런 생각에 제가 작성했던 커버레터(cover letter; 영문 자기소개서)를 다시 꺼내보게 되었어요. 비록 완벽한 카버레터는 아니지만, 저에게 다양한 기회를 주었던 문서이기 때문에 왠지 이 블로그를 통해 필요한 사람들과 공유하고 싶다는 생각이 들었어요. 제 과거의 고민들이 오늘 누군가의 고민을 조금이라도 덜어주었으면 좋겠네요.

My passion consistently drove me to deliver excellent results. In my three years at [학교명]—described by rigorous academic curriculum and competitive environment—I have received honors four times and been recognized by the dean’s list twice. Moreover, since I have satisfied the honors requirement at the Economics department, I plan to write an honor thesis at my final semester at [학교명] and graduate with honors. In fact, as an Economics and Statistics dual-major student, I have already written two research papers—[논문1, 논문2]. Indeed, my statistics studies have provided me with analytical skills; and my economics studies have given me a framework to apply these skills to solve real-world business challenges.

 

I also have actively participated in multiple student organizations. As a chair of social committee in [동아리명], a media and publication organization, I led a team which organized fundraising events and designed marketing solutions to increase the audience our publication contents reached. My team has successfully used social networking platforms such as Facebook and Instagram to strengthen the reach. I have always enjoyed working with teams, and have learned important skills, including but not limited to communication skills and organizational skills from working with smart people in these organizations.

 

I view this opportunity as a two-way process. I am certain I would learn a huge amount from this position, but I would also love to bring value to [회사명]. I look forward to discuss with what that value might be.

지금 다시 읽어보니 조금 더 잘 쓸 수 있다는 생각도 들지만, 그래도 공유를 못 할 정도는 아닌 것 같아요! :) 구조 정도는 참고할 수 있지 않을까요?
